From the first phone call to the last downpipe, here is exactly what a RIGS internal gutter conversion involves, how long each part takes, and what you need to do (which is very little).

Day one, about an hour
Nigel comes out, gets up on the roofline and looks at the actual condition of the gutter rather than guessing from the ground. He will photograph what he finds and show you, including the parts you cannot see. If your internal gutters have years left in them, he will say so. We have talked plenty of people out of work they did not need yet.

Usually within a week
The quote covers linear metres of fascia and spouting, corners and stopends, downpipes and outlets, access and safety gear, and disposal. If we can see that soffit or framing repair will be needed, it is priced as a separate line so you can see exactly what is gutter work and what is repair. Nothing is bundled into a single mystery number.

At your pace
RIGS comes in twenty COLORSTEEL colours. We bring samples and hold them against the house in daylight, because a colour on a chart indoors and the same colour on a roofline at four in the afternoon are two different things. Most people either match the roof or go a shade darker on the fascia to sharpen the line.

Lead time varies
RIGS is manufactured in New Zealand in three sizes, and the right one is selected for your roof and existing fascia. Lengths are made to your measured runs, which is why the finished line is straight and the joins land where they should rather than wherever a standard length ran out.

Depending on size and access
Edge protection goes up first. The old fascia and spouting come off in sections, the RIGS fascia is fixed and the new external spouting and downpipes are hung, then the roof drainage is redirected out of the concealed channel. The roof is never lifted and the house is never left open. Most owners carry on as normal around us.

Last day
We run water through the whole system and watch where it goes, at the outlets, the corners and the stopends. Offcuts and the old fascia leave with us. You get a walk around the house with the person who did the work, not a subcontractor you have never met.
The part that matters
Before RIGS existed, converting an internal gutter to external usually meant lifting the roof back along the affected edge, building out the framing to get a proper overhang, and re-covering. That turned a gutter problem into a roofing project, and the price reflected it. Plenty of owners looked at the number, decided to keep clearing the gutter by hand, and hoped.
RIGS is drawn to solve exactly that. The system reaches correct roof overhang on its own, without extension flashings bolted on to make up the difference, and it fixes to the existing structure. The roof stays where it is, your roofing warranty is untouched, and the job stays a few days rather than a few weeks.

We own our safety gear rather than hiring it, which keeps the cost down and, more usefully, keeps the schedule under our control instead of a scaffold company's.

No. The work happens entirely outside the building envelope, at the roof edge. Your house stays weathertight and liveable throughout, and there is no interior access needed unless we are also repairing damage the old gutter has already caused inside.
It is decommissioned rather than left as a hidden water trap. The roof drainage is redirected to the new external system so nothing runs into the concealed channel any more, and it is sealed off. Where the old gutter or fascia is corroded through, that material comes off and is disposed of.
No. RIGS was engineered specifically so that the conversion can be done without lifting the roof, which is what made internal gutter replacement so expensive before. The system reaches correct overhang without extension flashings, so the roof and its existing warranty are left alone.
We tell you before we do anything about it. Any framing or soffit repair is quoted separately and agreed with you first, with photographs of what we have found. We would rather have an awkward conversation on day two than hand over a surprise invoice at the end.
It depends on the height and the ground around the house. We own our edge protection, harnesses and scaffold, which means we are not waiting on a scaffold contractor to fit us in and the cost is not marked up through a third party. Whatever the job needs is included in the quoted price.
It varies with the season and the weather. Call and we will tell you honestly where you sit in the queue rather than promising a date we cannot hold. Active leaks get moved up.
